This year, the cruise sector in Amsterdam and IJmuiden will once again have a prominent presence at Seatrade Europe 2013, which will be held in Hamburg from 24 to 26 September. This is the leading trade fair for sea and river cruises, which takes place once every two years. Thousands of representatives from cruise companies, subcontractors/suppliers and destinations will meet one another on the trade fair floor.
The promotional foundation ACP (Amsterdam Cruise Port) will have its own stand at Seatrade Hamburg (Hall 4a stand 210) with thirteen participants. On Tuesday 24 September, ACP will also hold a happy hour in partnership with VCK Logistics, Havenbedrijf Amsterdam NV, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) and Felison Terminal. A diamond that has been jointly sponsored by Gassan Diamonds and Coster Diamonds will be raffled among attendees at this networking event.
Amsterdam Cruise Port will also promote the province of North Holland as an attractive region for river cruises during the conference programme — especially in terms of its berths and accessibility.
What’s more, ACP will present a new brochure on river cruises, constructed around themes such as Dutch masters, cultural heritage, water and flowers. The company will also launch its updated website, which contains detailed nautical and tourist information and an activities calendar. This website has been specially tailored to shipping companies and tour operators.
Significant increase in sea and river cruises
Sea and river cruises in the Amsterdam port region have undergone a significant increase over the last few years. This year, for example, 180 ocean-going cruise ships will visit the region: 141 calls in Amsterdam and 39 in IJmuiden. Next year (2014), the region expects to receive 200 calls, 149 of which at Amsterdam and the other 51 at IJmuiden.
River cruises should also rejoice at their increasing popularity. Amsterdam will receive almost 1500 ships this year, while there are already over 1300 requests in for 2014.
