Passenger Terminal Amsterdam Introduces Crew Pass

The first edition of the Amsterdam Crew Pass exclusively designed for ship’s crew was produced this May. This card gives crew members discount in participating shops and restaurants.

In recent years many crew members have found their way to the Zeedijk, the heart of Chinatown in Amsterdam, which is a 15-minute walk from the terminal. There are many Asian shops and restaurants. The text on street signs around the Zeedijk and Nieuwmarkt is conducted in both Dutch and Chinese characters. De Zeedijk area is also called the Nautical Quarter, due to the past as a sailor neighbourhood. By giving discounts, the area wants to attract more crew members.

The passes will be available in the crew lounge, and staff captains of the ships will be informed. Participating shops on the Zeedijk will have special promotions during the season; information on these special deals can also be found in the lounge. The pass is the next step in recognising the crew as the city’s ambassadors. This first edition is a good start with the hope that next season more companies will participate in the project.

Last year, a dedicated area for crew members was opened inside the terminal, with free WiFi, multiple electricity points, lounge chairs, water, etc.

But we have been too modest for too long, while recreation and tourism will become increasingly important for our economy. We now have a promising strategic plan in place to attract more visitors to our vibrant and exciting city. "
